Abstract Grid of Photographs...
For this project, read the below definitions and philosophies on abstract photography, art, and the idea of abstraction in general. Create a thematic grid (see above) of abstract images that relate to each other in some way. They could be the same subject matter, contain a common color palette, or share a similar idea or concept. They must be abstract as defined by the below paragraph...
"Abstract photography is the art of creating an image with colour, form, texture and light - but often without a clearly focused view of the subject matter. It is capturing the essence of that subject with a new way of seeing by pointing out something new and perhaps previously unseen, within the subject. As a result, it stretches your imagination as your mind attempts to place what it is seeing into a 'cubby hole' of understanding. The brain tries to match the picture with what it already knows - and if it can't find an appropriate category, it will create a new one. Through this challenging process we expand our mind and our way of thinking to include new possibilities - to see beyond the reality that is instantly visible when we turn our eyes towards an object or environment." ~natureshealing.hubpages.com
After taking your photographs, edit for cropping, color, contrast, etc., and drag them into one document sized at 13" by 19" at 200 resolution. Resize the individual images if necessary (using an action), and place them in a gridded pattern. The background color should NOT clash or distract from the overall final photograph, but rather complement it, becoming an integral part of the overall design. FInally, title the work, and digitally "sign" you piece in a similar manner to the Dances with Branches 2011 image created by Susan Albers...

Understand Abstract Art by Understanding Abstract
To understand definition of Abstract Art, first consider what the word Abstract means.
As an adjective the definition of abstract art is something apart from concrete existence. Things theoretical and not applied or practical, things not easily
understood. When applied to art it refers to a style of art that the intellectual and affective content are dependent solely on the intrinsic form.
As a noun the definition of abstract art is the summarization of the important parts of a text, the concentrated essence of the whole.
As a verb it mean to take away, to think of a quality or attribute with out thinking of a particular object or example. To summarize or remove from reality.
Things are classified as either abstract or concrete...
Often understanding the difference is intuitive. Things like love, justice, and kindness are abstract. Many people understand them in their own intuition but they are not tangible or concrete. Sometimes things related to concrete items can be abstract as well.
